Product certification

BENOR is a Belgian quality label indicating that a construction material or product complies with Belgian standards (NBN) and the applicable technical specifications.
The label is managed by NBN (the Belgian Bureau for Standardization) and monitored by independent certification bodies.
In Belgium, it is a recognized benchmark for quality and compliance.

BCCA issues certificates granting the right to use the BENOR mark for, among others, ceramic products, glass, plastics piping products, roofing products, fibre cement and concrete repair.

BENOR certification is a voluntary quality label.

Certification is carried out on the basis of a BENOR certification scheme, whose technical requirements generally correspond to those of a Belgian standard.
In the absence of standards, BCCA develops complementary specifications such as PTVs (Technical Prescriptions – Technische Voorschriften).

BCCA as a sectoral body for BENOR

BCCA has been appointed as a Sectoral Body by BENOR npo. This means that we organize the Sectoral Committee for several construction sectors.
Within this committee, all stakeholders are represented and they establish, by consensus, the rules for a BENOR certification scheme. These rules are published as Implementation Rules (TRA).

When too few or no standards exist, a Sectoral Committee may establish a Technical Specification (PTV).

Ongoing public consultations

New documents are approved through an internal procedure and are submitted for public consultation on this website.

Any comments can be sent to the relevant Sectoral Committee of BCCA by email at mail@bcca.be, mentioning “BENOR Public Consultation” + the reference of the document concerned.

Why BENOR certification?

The purpose of BENOR certification lies in the added value this label brings in terms of quality, trust and market access.

Quality and compliance assurance

  • The BENOR label demonstrates that a product complies with Belgian standards (NBN) and technical specifications.
  • It goes beyond the mandatory CE marking, which is limited to confirming essential European requirements (safety, health and environment). The BENOR label imposes stricter quality criteria.

Reliability and trust in the market

  • For contractors: BENOR-certified construction products reduce the risk of defects or rejection of materials on site.
  • For project owners (e.g. public authorities, architects): a BENOR label guarantees that the delivered materials meet the required quality, without the need to organize additional checks themselves.
  • For private individuals: the label provides extra reassurance when undertaking renovation or new-build projects.

Advantage in tenders and specifications

  • In many public procurement procedures and technical specifications, the BENOR label is explicitly required.

    Independent control

  • Certification is carried out by independent bodies and accredited laboratories.
  • Manufacturers are subject to periodic inspections of their production processes, quality management systems and product performance.
  • This external control strengthens the credibility of the label.

Competitive advantage for manufacturers

  • The BENOR label enhances a product’s image and commercial value.
  • It can even provide access to markets where project owners explicitly require BENOR certification.

In summary: BENOR certification is not a legal obligation but a quality label that builds trust, reduces risks and opens access to important markets and projects.
