Why certification of processes?

A process certificate is a declaration about the compliance of a particular process in the construction sector with established requirements

Processes in the construction sector include among others design, calculation, installation, assembly, execution, as well as the management of construction products, building systems and equipment in construction works.

A process certificate ensures that a company disposes of the required organization, knowledge and procedures, and uses an execution process that is supervised, all to be able to deliver an end result that complies with the requirements.

Among the key processes subject to certification are, for example, execution certification for concrete repair and for sewer rehabilitation.

In these cases, both the organization and the quality of the works are validated through random on-site inspections, carried out on the basis of the information entered by the concerned companies in the MyBCCA portal.

Implementation certification for sewer rehabilitation

Certification of contractors in the sewer renovation sector, as stipulated in the Standardised Tender Document Standaardbestek 250 - Art. 42 §6, started on January 1, 2025 (read more on Execert) under the brand BCCA.EXE. This means that for tenders of new projects and repairs within ongoing projects, certification will apply from 01/01/2025 and contractors can apply for certification with BCCA. Contractors must consider this in their pricing.

In consultation with the sector, it was decided to involve all stakeholders; the project owner can easily request that a project be carried out under certification. On this basis, a certified contractor will execute the project. If interaction with the client or engineering firm is necessary, they will be informed via email notification.

The implementation of the certification for sewer rehabilitation started on 01/01/25.

Certified techniques include CIPP (Cured In Place Piping), pipe in pipe, GRP panels, shortliners and stainless-steel renovation sleeves. Technical specifications and certification rules (available online) as well as an interactive monitoring system have been developed in collaboration with stakeholders. This system allows relevant construction partners (clients, contractors and engineering firms) to obtain transparent information for their projects about progress, potential issues and relevant documents such as calculation notes, datasheets, or test reports.

Certification does not transfer responsibility at the construction site; it rather supports construction partners by providing transparent and relevant information. The project owner and/or engineering firm retain their responsibilities, such as validation of calculations or products.
